U of S Huskies football name Scott Flory new head coach

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies football team didn’t have to look far for a new head coach.

Scott Flory was named head coach at an official announcement Monday afternoon.

“I’m truly honoured and humbled to be selected,” Flory said. “This is an opportunity for this program to grow, change and move forward.”

Flory has served as the Huskies’ offensive co-ordinator since 2014. He played five years with the team before graduating from the U of S with a degree in civil engineering.

The new head coach gave media a broad overview of his vision for the team, which includes a “shifting approach” to how football is handled at the university.

 “Preparation, practice, development – everything will be under the microscope,” he said.

He replaces long-time head coach Brian Towriss, who stepped down in December 2016 amid speculation he was forced out after 33 seasons at the helm.

The choice for head coach was made by a selection committee, which the university said reviewed a number of potential candidates.
