Scammers and scalpers are banking on making a quick buck off Ed Sheeran fans.
Saskatchewan’s Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority has flagged the musician’s upcoming Saskatoon show as a possible lightning rod for scalpers and people selling phony tickets .
Tickets for the July 23 show at SaskTel Centre go on sale on Ticketmaster Friday at 10 a.m.
Fans are being warned not to buy seats listed anywhere other than Ticketmaster before March 17, or within the first 48 hours that tickets go on sale.
The province noted it’s illegal for a reseller to sell, advertise or list for sale any tickets until at least 48 hours after the seats were made available to the general public.
It’s also illegal for people to sell, advertise or list for sale any tickets to an event in Saskatchewan unless the seats are in the person’s possession or control.
The agency offered tips for spotting potential fakes, including:
- Tickets listed for sale without specific seat numbers;
- Tickets listed in U.S. dollar amounts
- Tickets listed on a third-party site before sale to the general public has begun, or within the first 48 hours of going on sale.
People can make complaints about ticket sales to the Consumer Protection Division toll free at 1-877-880-5550 or by email at consumerprotection@gov.sk.ca.
