A cab driver and a woman were both able to get away after they were allegedly targeted in a pair of attempted robberies late Wednesday and early Thursday.
Officers were called to the intersection of Albert Street and Avonhurst Drive around 12 a.m. Thursday, where two teens allegedly attempted to rob a cab driver.
Police said one of the youths pointed a gun at the driver as they demanded money, but the driver was able to get away.
Officers searched the area and found a teenage boy who apparently matched the description of one of the suspects. He was taken into custody without incident. Police said an investigation revealed his involvement and led to the seizure of a gun.
Police said another attempted robbery had taken place 45 minutes earlier. Three young people allegedly approached a woman, demanding her money and cellphone. Police said one of the youths pulled out a gun, while another revealed a knife. The woman got away without incident.
Police are saying the two attempted robberies are connected.
A 15-year-old boy, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with robbery with violence, carrying a concealed weapon, pointing a gun, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and disguise with intent.
Police said he remains in custody. He’s scheduled to appear in court Thursday afternoon.
