A Saskatoon police canine “got his man” in the early hours of Tuesday morning after a driver attempted to evade officers.
Police said they tried to stop a stolen truck near 25th Street and Kinsmen Avenue when the vehicle sped away.
Officers stopped chasing, but the truck was noticed by another patrol.
Stop sticks were set up on College Drive near Hospital Drive to spike the vehicle’s tires. After the truck drove over the spikes, another stop stick was used successfully near 2nd Avenue and Duchess Street.
The truck stopped on 4th Avenue where the driver fled on foot, but was caught by the police dog.
The suspect sustained injuries police said are “consistent with dog bites.”
After his arrest, officers seized brass knuckles, a knife and methamphetamine from the truck.
A 25-year-old man from Onion Lake, Sask. now faces charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000, dangerous driving, evading police, breach of probation and several drugs and weapons charges.
