The CFL tried something new.
They took four different events and smashed them into something called CFL Week.
The league’s wisdom had them pick the most intense fan base, Saskatchewan, to play host to this event and though there are still two days left, I think we can call it a success.
Fan Fest has been growing every day since the doors opened on Tuesday. Fans got to see Kevin Glenn and Mike Reilly. They got to see Bo Levi Mitchell as not a hated foe but a pleasant and generous young man who tried to sign as many autographs as he could.
Warren Moon was here. Oh and then there were the other 50 plus stars of the CFL.
You look at the news coming out of CFL Week and it’s drawing attention to the game in the dog days between free agency and the opening of training camps.
Now, how to build on it. I’d suggest returning CFL Week to Saskatchewan next year. The fans who didn’t come out this time will likely want a re-do because they certainly are missing out.
But one thing is for sure: CFL Week should be now an annual event after the first one has gotten rave reviews from fans, media, players and coaches.
