On a beautiful sunny March morning, with barely any clouds in the sky and a brisk wind, the Paisley Golf Oasis Practice Range opened for their 25th season.
“Doesn’t seem like it’s been 25 years,” explained Bill Paisley, owner of the range, located on Highway 1 west of the Lewvan Drive overpass.
Late Friday morning there was only a single golfer, wearing a light jacket and shorts, working the rust off his game — not a complete surprise since it was only around 3 C at the time.
It will likely be busier Friday afternoon and throughout the weekend with the temperature expected to reach double digits.
“If it gets to that and the sun is shining then I think it’ll be fairly busy,” Paisley said.
Large collections of water can be seen on the range, which is currently being pumped out. Golfers will be hitting off range mats until the ground thaws and the grass becomes greener.
Paisley said the range looks good for this time of year.
Late March is usually when the facility opens, however it all depends on the year and when the snow melts.
“Last year was a record, we opened the 27th of February, and we’ve opened as late as April 28.”
