There were few complaints at a Saskatoon driving range, as golfers were able to get a few early swings in on Saturday.
Silverwood’s Driving Range opened up for the first time, giving hope that golf courses will be ready soon.
“We’ve had a lot of people calling the office to find out when we were going to open,” said City of Saskatoon golf manager Andrew Roberts.
City courses are expected to open in the middle of April, but if the weather is good, a few holes at Wildwood could be open at the beginning of the month.
“Mother nature is in control,” Roberts said.
The thought of an early start to the golf season is music to the ears of Zach Hurd, who was at Silverwood Saturday taking advantage of the open tee boxes.
“I’m originally from Prince Albert and we never get to swing the club outdoors this early,” the 20-year-old said.
The range was still damp on Saturday, so golfers will be hitting off the artificial mats until the ground thaws and the grass becomes greener.
