Wall and Notley spar over recent budgets

Alberta’s premier is taking aim at the Saskatchewan budget released this week.

“What we’ve seen in Saskatchewan is what it looks like when the rubber hits the road,” Rachel Notley said.

Brad Wall’s budget included a deficit of nearly $1.3 billion, service cuts and tax increases.

“Look at the record, since she (Notley) was elected their government has increased every tax, introduced a new tax, a multi-billion dollar carbon tax and have posted in the last two $10 billion deficits,” Wall fired back.

“I’m about as interested in fiscal advice from the Alberta NDP as I would be in Twitter etiquette advice from Donald Trump.”

Wall’s government has maintained tough decisions are needed to balance the books and this week’s budget included a three-year plan to do that.

Alberta has not yet signaled any long-term plan to reduce its deficit beyond waiting for oil-prices to rise.
