A potential bullying incident at a Lloydminster high school, in which the RCMP found no wrongdoing, is now being referred to the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board.
Sources told 650 CKOM the incident involved a student at Holy Rosary High School and took place in the locker room on Nov. 17, 2016.
Dr. Kevin Govender, the site chief of staff at the Lloydminster Hospital, spoke to My Lloydminster Now on Feb. 10 about the incident.
He described how an object was “inserted into an orifice with potential for injury” before the start of football practice at the school.
Sources told 650 CKOM the object was a chair leg inserted into the victim’s anus.
In the article, Govender said the student took part in practice that day and was taken to emergency three hours after the alleged incident.
The doctor noted there was potential “the child could have bled out from a laceration of the area of penetration.”
Education Minister Don Morgan confirmed Tuesday the teachers’ board is now looking into the matter.
“Lloydminster Catholic School Division informed the ministry that an incident had taken place at one of their schools that resulted in an RCMP investigation and an internal school division investigation,” Morgan wrote in a statement.
RCMP issued a statement to 650 CKOM on Feb. 15 saying they would not comment on the incident as no charges were laid.
“Speaking about the matter further could jeopardize the safety and privacy of the victim,” RCMP wrote.
According to a statement from the school division to My Lloydminster Now on Feb. 10, the internal review resulted in “administrative actions appropriate and consistent in cases of student-related concerns.”
No further details were provided.
“We find it extremely unfortunate that concerns have been voiced in disagreement with the outcomes of both the school division and RCMP investigations,” the statement read.
“In accordance with our policy, procedures and privacy legislation, information concerning such matters is highly personal and we will not make further public comment beyond this statement.”
Sources told 650 CKOM the victim’s mother is an employee with the Lloydminster Catholic School Division and the student’s father works as a teacher for the high school.
The Holy Rosary football coach is also the school’s principal.
