Rent reduced for riders, early budget items approved by Regina Council

The fallout from the provincial budget has made it to the classroom.
Saskatoon Public School Board Chair Ray Morrison told 650 CKOM Wednesday that everything is on the table.
“I’ve been on the board since 2003 and this is the most difficult budget that I’ve seen. So yeah, it’s going to be a challenge,” Morrison said.
According to Morrison, the board is looking at an $11.5-million shortfall a year, similar to the one the city is facing, but with a third of the budget to work with.
“We’re going to have to look in some of the dusty and dark corners that we’ve been able to avoid (in the past),” Morrison said.
That could mean changes to programs and student to teacher ratios.
The board has until June to present its budget so for now, no change is set in stone.
In Regina, the public board announced Tuesday some kids are losing bus service, kindergarten is moving to a full-time schedule and two pre-kindergarten programs for special needs students are being phased-out.
