The Saskatoon Fire Department and the Saskatoon Police Service are working to figure out what was behind a rash of fires early Friday morning.
Crews were called out to five blazes between 2 and 4 a.m., all clustered within a small area in the southwest corner of the Stonebridge neighbourhood.
The fire department put out a media release detailing the incidents.
The total damages for all five fires and damage to neighbouring homes was an estimated $418,000.
Those damages were broken down as follows:
- 607 Kolynchuk Court – attached garage fire – estimated damages $1000.00.
- 655 Kolynchuk Court – house fire – estimated damages $300,000.00.
- Additional fire and heat damage to neighbouring houses at 651 and 659 Kolynchuk $50,000.00 each.
- 974 Kolynchuk Bend – construction trailer – estimated damages $1000.00.
- 982 Kolynchuk Bend – detached garage fire – estimated damages $1000.00.
- 1113 Kolynchuk Link – vehicle fire – estimated damages $15000.00.
A spokesperson for the Saskatoon Fire Department confirmed the homes involved in the incidents were all under construction.
He said investigators believe the incidents may be linked because they all happened so close together, but have yet to determine a cause.
