Game 7: Swift Current Broncos versus the Regina Pats.
It’s not just the WHL’s smallest centre against the country’s oldest junior hockey franchise, this is an all-Saskatchewan playoff series that’s been more captivating than some of the action in the National Hockey League.
Swift Current coach Manny Viveiros concocted an incredible game plan that helped the Broncos upset the Moose Jaw Warriors before taking a 3-1 lead in this best-of-seven series against the heavily favoured Pats. Regina spent most of this season as the top-rated team in major junior hockey.
Swift Current won three games in overtime, backstopped by goalie Jordan Papirny. Ryley Lindgren, Colby Sissons and Glenn Gawdin have scored huge goals.
Regina responded with back-to-back wins. Pats goalie Tyler Brown made crucial saves in Game 6 while his team rebounded from a 3-1 deficit. Playing without injured captain Adam Brooks, the Pats are getting strong performances from Austin Wagner, Filip Ahl and Josh Mahura.
Regina’s Brandt Centre is sold out tonight. Game 7. Magical.
