U.S. border patrol confirmed more information following a case of human smuggling at the border with Saskatchewan.
The incident happened on April 14, 2017. Those involved were apprehended on the American side of the border, but the incident did not happen at an official border crossing.
In a media advisory, RCMP only said that charges were laid on April 15 and “related to an investigation into asylum seekers crossing the border into Saskatchewan”.
Regina Police Service confirmed its officers assisted RCMP and Canadian Border Services Agency in a search of a Regina home in relation to this incident.
RCMP had scheduled a news conference to provide more details on Tuesday afternoon, but that conference will now take place Wednesday morning.
