You certainly can’t win a World Series in April but you can most definitely lose it.
That is what looks to be happening to the Toronto Blue Jays with a 2-10 start. It’s been ugly. The bats are ice cold and they have a few key injuries to their top hitter Josh Donaldson and pitcher Aaron Sanchez and J.A. Happ.
Even though there are 150 games, the numbers are not in the Jays favour to compete for a division lead and even a wild card spot will be a challenge.
The Blue Jays gave John Gibbons a contract extension just last month and it’s fair to ask why considering the star, but Ross Atkins and Mark Shapiro should be in the crosshairs too.
They haven’t exactly improved the roster since taking over from Alex Anthopoulos following the 2015 season.
Of course, those three don’t stand at the plate and swing at bad pitches either. Everyone shares in the blame.
But this team could be in desperate need for a drastic shakeup, although the team has to see how the rest of the spring goes, as hard as that may be to watch.
