“Shocking and unexpected.”
That’s how Rita, who would not provide her last name, described a fire and suspicious death at a home on the 300 block of Brome Street in Yellow Grass, Sask. located about 28 kilometres northwest of Weyburn, Sask.
“I believe in god and I believe that he is watching over us so there is no fear,” said Rita who lives near the crime scene.
RCMP said around 8:40 p.m. Thursday, Milestone RCMP along with Fire Services and EMS responded to a complaint of a fire at a residence.
An adult woman was located inside the home and pronounced dead at the scene.
RCMP said her death is considered suspicious. They added there is no risk to the public at this point in the investigation.
The name of the deceased will not be released until family has been notified.
As of Friday afternoon, yellow police tape surrounded the home, a portion of the street was closed and blood was smeared on the driveway.
Dave Fawcett, who lives near the home, said he isn’t surprised this happened in the small community.
“Whether it happens in a small town, a big town, it’s just upsetting period that it’s even going on,” explained Fawcett. “You listen to the news and you hear the stuff that goes on in the states and it’s starting to happen here and I think people are losing their minds.”
John McIver lives on Brome Street, several houses away from the crime scene. He talked about the family that lived at the home.
“All I saw of them was when they walked past to get the mail, they always spoke, and they brought the kids here for Halloween.”
McIver said as far as he knows they were a good family.
