Jeremy O’Day missed an opportunity to escape.
O’Day is the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ assistant vice-president of football operations and administration. He reportedly was interviewed by the Edmonton Eskimos, who were looking for a general manager before hiring Brock Sunderland. Sunderland was formerly Ottawa’s assistant general manager.
O’Day won’t complain about staying with Saskatchewan. He’s happy about his 19-year association with the Roughriders, beginning with 12 seasons as a player. This is his second year working for Chris Jones, who got the top job O’Day had applied for. Although there have never been any public rifts, it’s never seemed like O’Day is part of the team’s inner sect.
If the Riders are successful, most of the credit will go to Jones and his closest advisers. If the Riders aren’t successful, O’Day will likely face the consequences and get pushed aside without getting the opportunity he deserves right here – to become a CFL general manager.
