A former Chief and current councillor of the Key First Nation pleaded guilty again to trafficking drugs on Monday.
RCMP arrested 64-year-old Clarence Papequash in February. A search warrant was executed in the home where he lived and found several codeine pills along with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Papequash was sentenced in Yorkton Provincial Court to one year in prison along with two years of probation. He also was given a DNA order and has a lifetime ban on owning guns.
Papequash was chief of the Key First Nation in 2008 and re-elected in 2010 and 2012. He was also re-elected as a councillor managing elders, social development, and public works. He has since been removed as councillor with the Key First Nation.
Papequash was found guilty of drug trafficking back in 2014. The case made headlines as he was caught selling a half of a morphine pill to an undercover RCMP officer.
