Over 3,000 stuffed animals were tossed onto the ice.
The precedent has now been set: compensation for giving someone a promotion in the Canadian Football League.
The Edmonton Eskimos and Ottawa Redblacks have had this fight before when the Eskimos plucked Jason Maas to be their head coach.
The Redblacks wanted compensation despite tradition being no compensation paid. They cried to the league enough that a new rule came in that compensation should be considered.
So here we are with Brock Sunderland going from Ottawa to Edmonton with the Eskimos paying up to get him.
In my opinion, there should be no roadblocks for people in the CFL from getting a promotion within the CFL. Assistant coaches should be able to take on the head coaching job elsewhere as should assistant general managers go higher. All that should be needed is permission granted to negotiate.
No coach or manager should have their chances at a promotion be decided by whether or not their future employer wants to pay up or their current employer having an unreasonable ask.
