Saskatoon actor Kim Coates, best known for his role asTig in the TV show Sons of Anarchy, is coming home to receive a huge honour.
The University of Saskatchewan is bestowing upon him an honorary Doctor of Letters degree during convocation on June 6.
“I was just awe-struck. It’s an honour and it’s something I will cherish for the rest of my life,” Coates said during an interview with Saskatchewan Afternoon host David Kirton.
Coates, who often comes returns to Saskatoon to support various charitable causes, said he has fond memories of his time at the university where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1981.
“There’s no way you’re thinking some years later you’re going to be bestowed with this kind of an honour. It’s incredible,” he said.
While he hasn’t written his speech yet, Coates said he has given a lot of thought to what he will say to students at convocation.
“It’s going to be from the heart. It’s going to be reflective … honest and funny,”
Since graduating from the U of S, Coates has gone on to become an acclaimed Hollywood actor appearing in more than 100 movies and TV series.
His most notable movie roles were in Black Hawk Down and Pearl Harbor.
