It’s impossible to know which story lines will prevail in the NHL playoff series between Edmonton and Anaheim.
It could come down to goaltending. Cam Talbot has been terrific for the Oilers. His play could be the difference.
The Ducks’ dominance on home ice may factor in to a series like this. Anaheim lost just eight games at the Honda Centre in regulation time during the regular season.
Then we need be mindful of the unsung heroes. Anaheim’s Nate Thompson, who had two points in 30 games in the regular season, has four points in four playoff games with the Ducks. (Three of those points came in game two of the Calgary series.)
Zack Kassian of the Oilers had just seven goals in 79 games in the regular season, but scored two game-winners against San Jose in round one.
Don’t get me wrong, it’ll be great to see the NHL’s superstar Connor McDavid try to succeed against a big, physical Anaheim team. However, this series offers fans so much more.
