Canadian tennis star Genie Bouchard had some strong words about tennis opening their arms to Maria Sharapova after her 15-month ban ended for doping.
Bouchard went as far to say as a cheater should not be allowed back into the sport ever.
So much for second chances. Bouchard isn’t the only player calling out the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) for inviting Sharapova back just days after her ban ends.
Yes, I can understand that players who were losing to Sharapova in the years previous to her ban are quite ticked that Sharapova could have cost them money for winnings and seedings and the rest, but banned for life is a little strong.
The sponsors of tennis want Sharapova back. She is still a star of the sport and having the best players on the court, whether the doping cloud hangs over them or not.
But she’s served her time and now it’s up to Maria Sharapova to prove whether those drugs she was taking got her to top of the world and five grand slam titles.
