An outpouring of love and support for two brothers as the communities of Wilkie, Unity and the Battlefords rally together.
Zachary and Cole Veit suffered a terrible loss last month, the death of their mother Heidi.
Her body was discovered near Wilkie, her estranged husband Wesley John Veit has been charged with first-degree murder in connection.
Saturday friends and strangers alike are coming together to host a benefit at the Wilkie Arena at 8 p.m.
“This is something we needed to do for the boys,” Organizer Danielle Chapman said. “I’ve been friends with Cole for many years and seemed like the best way to show them how much we care.”
The event will feature music by local band Stereo Playground, a raffle and silent auction.
“Words cannot describe my appreciation for the businesses in the area. You would not believe the generosity we have received in putting this benefit together for the boys. It’s just been amazing,” Chapman said.
The benefit is open to the public with admission set as a donation at the door.
“The arena has been donated and the band has donated their talents so every nickel will be going to Cole and Zach,” Chapman said. “Everyone has come together.”
According to Chapman, the community has shown a lot of support for the boys, and she’s not sure they realize it yet.
Wilkie is 56 kilometres southwest of North Battleford.
