The Saskatchewan Roughriders were fined another $31,500.00 last week for various CFL by-law violations.
In the last year-and-a-half, the Riders have paid out $111,500.00 in fines. There is also a $26,000 reduction in the team’s salary cap in 2017 for earlier violations.
One fan asked me if this reflects poorly on the team or on Chris Jones.
Is this a team of cheaters? It depends on who you ask.
Saskatchewan fans will side with the Green and White, if the Riders win. The “Rider Nation” will defend the team like family if the team does the fans proud on the field. If the team struggles it will be a different story. These violations will be something the fans will point to when urging the decision-makers for change.
From a league perspective the Riders are repeat offenders, which means the team won’t get the benefit of the doubt if the CFL investigates another transgression.
