We start with full disclosure: I have never attended a sporting event in Boston. It seems like a great sports town.
All of the pro teams in that city, whether it be the Patriots, Bruins, Celtics or Red Sox, have a rich history.
An ugly incident tarnished Boston’s reputation as a great sports city on Monday as the Baltimore Orioles were visiting the Red Sox.
The Orioles’ Adam Jones, who is African-American,was called racist names and had a bag of peanuts thrown at him. These were disgraceful actions from a few at Fenway Park.
While we would all rather not hear about such incidents, it may be a good thing that this story came to the forefront. On Tuesday night Jones got an ovation from the majority of Red Sox fans after Monday’s incident was made public.
Highly paid athletes are always expected to be accountable for their actions. Fans need to account for their behaviour too. A handful of people in Boston have really let their city down.
