Trading work for sand, water at Regina Beach

A hot, gorgeous day is one thing, but pair it with a Friday and it can make for a dangerous mix, at least when it comes to work productivity.

There wasn’t a whole lot of work going on at Regina Beach, but instead relaxation.

Lee Jackson was sprawled out on a towel on the beach, as boats and jet skis skimmed across the surface of the chilly water in the distance.

“Summer’s here. It’s been a long winter,” he said.

Jackson said right now he’s unemployed after being laid off as an electrician, but joked being able to spend the day soaking up the sun and boating is the upside.

As a reward for doing well in school, 14-year-old Jacob Wing got to trade in the classroom for the beach and lake.

“My grades are all good and everything so my dad just phoned the school and said we should go out you know, just a beautiful day,” said the teen.

But the first real summer-like day of the year doesn’t come without consequence, at least for those who risk not wearing sunscreen.

“It’s not a big deal. I tan pretty good though,” said Sabrina Tatar, claiming she doesn’t burn.

Others insist even though they did slather on sunscreen, they’ll still probably burn because it’s the first hot day, insinuating their skin hasn’t adjusted yet.
