Woodsy and I had a pretty good argument Friday on the Green Zone. It wasn’t staged or pre-ordained. It was actually quite a surprise that we disagreed so vehemently on the subject.
Woodsy agreed with some remarks by Roughriders boss Chris Jones, who believes his team is being held to a higher standard than other CFL teams. I think that’s ridiculous because all professional sports leagues have to behave like courtrooms by being fair, objective and treating every team the same.
Woodsy cited the harsh penalties doled out by the NFL and CFL offices for the New England Patriots and Saskatchewan Roughriders for recent infractions, which showed that they weren’t being treated fairly. That’s how fans think.
He further reiterated by saying other teams dislike the Patriots and Riders, so they got punished more severely. He might be right on that point: Unpopular teams will get caught more often. But no credible league can afford to treat its members differently. And Woodsy and I are still buddies.
