All Roughriders fans want to see is progress from general manager Chris Jones.
And I think we’re seeing it.
We all know Chris Jones can coach. There is no question about it. Now he is entering year two as a general manager and we’re watching a bit of an evolution from the Riders football boss.
Last week, he stood and took questions and answered them about the team’s fines. That shows a level of accountability we didn’t necessarily see in year one.
Now we’ll see if the CFL Draft turns out a little better than his first go around as there is no guarantee the number one overall pick can actually turn into a player worthy of that top selection.
Jones has continued to top up the Canadian talent as he’s even noted you need Canadians to win in the CFL as well as quarterback.
The QB is what gives me the most pause. He needs to find the next franchise guy and the plan is a bit hazy with soon to be 38 and 34-year-old quarterbacks brought in. It would be nice to see a 20-something step up at camp.
There has been growth as a manager for Chris Jones and that will make his head coach’s job a lot easier.
