A staggeringly high number on a Mountie’s radar got one driver a staggeringly expensive ticket.
Weyburn RCMP said the driver was caught when an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 39 between Yellow Grass and McTaggart on Friday.
According to RCMP, the officer was checking the speed of an oncoming car when a four-door Jeep Wrangler entered the radar beam, showing an alleged speed of 189 kilometres per hour.
The officer followed the vehicle, which apparently clocked in at 168 km/h on the radar, well above the posted speed limit of 100 km/h.
Police stopped the driver and issued a $492 ticket. Because the Jeep was clocked going more than 50 km/h above the speed limit, it was seized on the spot and impounded for seven days.
