More charges for woman accused of white powder, bomb threats

The woman accused of sending suspicious packages to Saskatoon businesses and schools is facing more charges.

Police said Alexa Emerson has been charged with six additional counts of uttering threats after a series of bomb threats sent to Saskatoon businesses and a high school in April.

The threats were sent via email, but no bombs were found in any instance.

The bomb threats were all received after she surrendered herself to police on April 10 in response to charges over white powder scares in the city.

Emerson is expected to appear in provincial court on May 18 to respond to the new charges.

The 31-year-old now faces a total of 75 charges stemming from nearly 20 incidents since November.

She was initially charged after five suspicious packages containing a harmless white powder were delivered to businesses on Nov. 29, 2016.

Since then there have been eight white powder scares and six bomb threats in Saskatoon, encompassing two schools and the University of Saskatchewan Cancer Centre.

Emerson is facing 25 counts of uttering threats, 13 counts of mischief over $5,000, 13 counts of public mischief, six counts of identity theft and 18 counts of breach of recognizance.

She was also convicted under the name Amanda Totchek for a harassment and threat campaign against an ex-boyfriend and his family in 2015.
