Power outage causes concern for fans waiting on Pats tickets

Excitement quickly turned to panic for Regina Pats fans lined up outside of the Brandt Centre during the early hours Thursday.

Fans had been waiting outside the arena since 6 a.m. to buy tickets for game 6 in the series between the Pats and Seattle Thunderbirds.

But an hour before the seats were opened to the public, a power outage shut down the Brandt Centre. 

 “I honestly could’ve thrown up,” said Heather Dyck, who was hoping to buy eight tickets to the game for family members and friends. “I didn’t know what I was going to do. I was panicking.”

Trevor Selinger was first in line, having waited since 5:30 a.m.

He said fans were told the power was going to be out until later in the afternoon, but tickets were still going to be on sale on Ticketmaster at noon.

“We’re all kind of thinking, ‘We’re going to get screwed out of tickets,’” Selinger said.

Fortunately, Brandt Centre employees were able to use the box office at new Mosaic Stadium to provide fans with tickets at the time of sale.

Sheila Obst was also one of the first people to snatch some seats.

She said while there are plenty of places to go to watch the game, the Brandt Centre is the only place to get the full experience.

“You gotta be there to know, so people should get their tickets if they can and season tickets next year and work it the right way,” Obst said.

The Pats are next in action in Seattle Friday night before returning home to the Brandt Centre on Sunday.
