I think it is cliché just to start throwing support behind teams because they are the only Canadian team left.
But there are plenty of reasons to support the Ottawa Senators in the final four of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. It’s about their team and how they’ve fought hard on and off the ice to get to this point.
It starts at the top with owner Eugene Melnyk and former general manager, now advisor, Bryan Murray’s fight with cancer.
The ‘c’ word has also impacted the team. Goaltender Craig Anderson has been away from the team at times to be with his wife, fighting cancer.
Captain Erik Karlsson is a fantastic player and an easy guy to cheer for.
Clarke MacArthur’s fight back from concussions has been inspirational.
And could you imagine the Ottawa Senators holding the Stanley Cup on Parliament Hill on July First for Canada’s 150th?
This is why the Ottawa Senators should be the team to root for. They have the best stories.
But don’t get too excited yet. The Penguins are likely to win this series in five games or less.
