It should be as easy as ABC as the government shows no concern about any looming shortage of daycare workers.
When all the new daycare centres across Saskatchewan open this fall, 270 additional early childhood educators are needed.
There is some concern among parents that there won’t be enough graduates to fill those positions.
However, those concerns aren’t echoed by the education minister.
“Our belief by talking to the daycare operators is that they are going to be OK,” Don Morgan maintained. “We’re watching it carefully and from what our understanding from the operators they are not indicating there is going to be a problem.”
Morgan maintains the government has been working with Saskatchewan Polytechnic and others to ensure enough staff are being trained to meet demand.
“We’re watching what the demand is, not just in that sector, but all the way across the workplace to say OK, do we have the right training, at the right places,” Morgan said.
