With tears streaming down their cheeks, the loved ones of Andrew Pasap huddled together hugging and tried to console one another in the face of an immense loss for the family.
They showed up to provincial court in Regina for the first appearance of Cheyna Peigan. She is being charged with manslaughter in Pasap’s death. Some family members wore bright blue t-shirts with Pasap’s picture on them. The words “rest in peace brother” were also printed on the shirts.
Pasap was involved in martial arts. He was also a father.
He was found injured on the 800 block of Albert Street on Saturday during the early morning hours. He later died in hospital.
Peigan’s court appearance lasted mere moments as the judge asked her about finding a lawyer. When she left the prisoner’s box, she was crying as well.
The crown is opposed to Peigan’s release. She’ll be back before a judge on Thursday morning.
