On the eve of one of the windiest days in Saskatoon, crews worked tirelessly to set up a massive tent for an even grander event.
Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan’s iconic big white tent was pulled out for another season of theatre by the South Saskatchewan River Tuesday night.
“It’s one of the traditions in Saskatchewan,” said artistic producer Will Brooks. “You can always expect to have a great summer evening because it’s a beautiful spot along the riverbank.”
The hardy structure managed to last through Wednesday, when Environment Canada recorded wind gusts of 105 km/h at Saskatoon airport.
New this year, the tent has been moved to the north end of the site to get rid of traffic noise for theatre goers.
“Our audience will really appreciate the move to make the experience even better this year,” Brooks said.
Opening nights for Twelfth Night and Richard III are July 7 and 8, respectively.
2017 marks 33 seasons for Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan.
