We are in hyper-sensitive times.
Everything we see in sport –and for that matter, in life – is up for debate thanks to social media.
Thousands of people are online looking for behavior that is not politically correct. Sadly, anyone with access to a computer has become judge and jury.
That’s part of the reason why sports has lost personalities.
Whether it’s the Ozzie Smith flip or the Tiger Williams stick ride – see YouTube if you’re too young to remember – athletes all seem to act and behave the same way.
That’s why I was happy to see the NFL loosen the rules when it came to end zone celebrations.
Football players can now celebrate as a group, use the football as a prop and get down on the ground while celebrating. These were things the No Fun League eliminated a few years ago.
The one rule of thumb is simple: respect your opponents. Other than that, have fun – sports is about entertainment.
