'Appears to be a one-off:' police investigate hot dog with razor blades

Police in Regina have started an investigation into who stuffed a hot dog full of razor blades and left the potentially dangerous treat in a yard in North Central.

A woman said she found the pieces of hot dog while taking her own dogs out recently.

“This one appears to be a one-off. We don’t have any indication that there’s more than one. This is the only one reported incident. We have members actively investigating this right now,” said Deputy police Chief Dean Rae.

“They’re out banging on doors, checking with neighbours to see who may have seen something and trying to come to a resolution so hopefully, it’s just a one-off event as we’re trying not to alarm the public, but these things do.”

Rae added incidents like this tend to raise public anxiety.

He admitted it can be difficult to find the culprit if they aren’t caught in the act or if somebody doesn’t see them doing it.

“It quite frankly is. Somebody walking down a street could toss something in a yard and keep going. Unless somebody happens to see what went on, we don’t know where it came from,” said Rae.

Even though it’s not totally uncommon, Rae maintained these sort of incidents are still pretty rare.
