City pushes transit for those attending Mosaic concert

Organizers of the Regina Rocks Mosaic concert on Saturday continue to push people to use public transportation to get down to the new stadium.

“We’re trying to shift the public thinking to move to transit or being dropped off, given the pressure on the space here for multiple uses,” said Evraz Place CEO Mark Allan.

There will be no public parking on the grounds of Evraz on Saturday. Allan originally said there will be limited parking for permit holders only.

However, Paula Kohl clarified Friday the passes only apply to Rider home games and not other Mosaic Stadium events.

Shuttles will run from 3:45 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will leave from Southland Mall, Northgate Mall, Victoria Square Mall and Normanview Crossing, along with the Delta Hotel and Victoria Park downtown. Regular Regina transit service will be free as well for those who show their ticket to the concert.

The concert features Our Lady Peace, Johnny Reid and headliner Bryan Adams. It’s the second test event at the venue. The contractual agreement requires the city to test the stadium at 75 per cent capacity, meaning around 25,000 tickets could be sold.

Accessible parking will be set up west of Confederation Park, south of the Fieldhouse and Lawson Aquatic Centre and along 10th Avenue.

Elphinstone Street from Dewdney to just north of Saskatchewan Drive will be closed to traffic from Saturday at 2 p.m. to midnight.

“You will find that with the closing of Elphinstone Street people can walk here easier and they can get here easier than if they went through the traditional way of driving your car and trying to find a place to park,” said Mayor Michael Fougere.

“There will be congestion, no question, but we believe we have the plan that will work.”

For those who choose to cycle to the event, a bike valet service will be set up. Cyclists can store their equipment in a secured area free of charge.
