The Pittsburgh Penguins appear to be back in Stanley Cup form after teetering on the brink of collapse earlier in this Eastern Conference final against Ottawa.
Even though the Penguins won Game 2, linemates Evgeni Malkin and Phil Kessel clearly weren’t on the same page. The dysfunction spilled over to Game 3 when the Senators beat the Penguins 5-1.
But, like great teams do, Pittsburgh has been able to right the ship.
In Game 4, 5 and 6 the Penguins outscored the Senators 11-4. One of those games ended in a 7-0 score. Even though the Penguins lost Game 6, Pittsburgh outshot Ottawa 46-30.
Anything can happen in a Game 7. The problem for Ottawa is that the defending Stanley Cup champions have seen it all. The Penguins were already in a Game 7 against Washington this year.
Last year the Penguins had to beat Tampa Bay in a Game 7 to get the Stanley Cup final.
Based on recent history, the odds appear to be stacked against Canada’s team.
