Take a bow, Ottawa Senators.
Despite the doubters – myself included – and despite the boring moniker, you earned your spot in game 7 double overtime against the defending Stanley Cup champions. That’s as close as you can come to making the final nobody thought you’d play in.
Also, take a bow, Craig Anderson for an outstanding performance in playoffs but also to his wife Nicholle.
Two months ago, Anderson left the team to be with his wife as she fought cancer, a fight she continued during the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Earlier this month she updated her fight that she couldn’t receive any more chemotherapy.
So next up, a PET scan that is coming “at the end of May.” Whether that test has happened yet, we don’t know.
This is the Anderson family’s reality.
I’ve said before Craig and Nicholle are reason enough to cheer for the Senators to win it all but when we separate the game from real life, all we really should be cheering for is Nicholle’s PET scan comes back cancer free.
That is much more important than a Stanley Cup.
