More money is being raised to fight prostate cancer at the local level.
Thursday night’s the Uncover the Cure Cocktail Party, hosted by 980 CJME’s John Gormley, raised $82,900 for the Prostate Assessment Centre at Regina’s Pasqua Hospital.
“I would estimate over the last 10 years, over 5,000 men have gone through the centre,” said Dino Sophocleus, president and CEO of the Hospitals of Regina Foundation. “This is a great fundraiser but ultimately, this is about the community getting together to make lives better.”
Thursday night’s total brings the amount of money raised over the past decade to more than $1 million.
“It’s not really about the money,” Sophocleus continued. “At the end of the day, it’s about people, it’s about their lives and it’s about our ability to send them back to their families.”
Sophocleus said that, even in more challenging economic times, the foundation has not felt any major setbacks, adding the philanthropic spirit of Regina never ceases to amaze him.
Money raised goes to purchase more equipment for the centre.
