Rawlco earns national awards for on-air work

Talented people at 650 CKOM and 980 CJME were recognized at the National Radio Television Digital News Awards in Toronto Saturday.

Jamie Nye’s farewell to Taylor Field picked up the Sam Ross Award for Best Commentary.

The Rawlco Day of Caring for Fort McMurray received the Gord Sinclair Award for Best Live Special Coverage in all of Canada.

The 12-hour broadcast told the evolving story of the 2016 wildfire evacuation and raised nearly $800,000 for the Red Cross.

The CKOM Midday Report, anchored by Gerald Bauman and David Kirton, got the Byron MacGregor Award for Best Radio Newscast in Canada for market size.
