Think of it like construction, just without the familiarity.
That’s how Regina police describe elements of the new traffic plan around Mosaic Stadium.
During the city’s first two test events at the new venue, Elphinstone Street has been closed from Dewdney Avenue to Saskatchewan Drive for large chunks of the day.
That’s causing some confusion and some irritation for drivers.
“We will have growing pains going through this and we’re asking for patience from our officers and from the public,” said Insp. Trevor Ewart. “The traffic plan that we do have is different from the old one so our officers and the public are being slowly accustomed to what they can and can’t do compared to what they did at the old stadium.”
Ewart believes by testing this plan out and then repeating it for other events in the future, the public will eventually get the message – if they haven’t already – and the headaches will disappear.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s a concert or a Rider game, we’re going to have the same traffic plan to try to keep it consistent so that people, once they get the routine of where they can and can’t go, then it won’t be as frustrating.”
The third and final test event will be held June 10, which is the Saskatchewan Roughriders first pre-season game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
