A group of Montreal schoolchildren have been getting knitting lessons from one of Canada’s most notorious convicted killers.
Karla Homolka, infamous for her role in the slayings of three teenage girls alongside then-husband Paul Bernardo, has re-emerged in the press following reports that she’s been volunteering at her kids’ school in Montreal.
Domenic Fazioli, a reporter with CityTV in Montreal, broke the story.
He told Gormley it started with a call from a concerned mom.
“Karla Homolka was going to her child’s class with her dog, doing sort of show-and-tells. Apparently, now, I just found out that Karla was showing up with her knitting kit and showing the kids how to knit,” he said.
Fazioli said he’s heard Homolka also helped supervise a kindergarten class trip to the Montreal Science Centre.
He said several parents are upset at learning she’s been allowed anywhere near their kids.
“Parents think that’s a huge mistake…that the school should never have let her in, even for a few minutes,” he said.
Fazioli said there’s still no word from school officials on whether Homolka will be allowed to keep volunteering.
In the meantime, he said Homolka shows no sign of giving up. He said she was at the school to drop her kids off on Wednesday morning, despite the presence of at least five camera crews.
“Karla wants to continue being a soccer mom and continue being an active participant at that school.”
