Trust the Saskatchewan Roughriders to turn a horrible parking situation into an amazing cash grab.
For the low, low price of $300 per vehicle, Roughriders season ticket holders were offered the first-come, first-serve opportunity to buy one of the limited number of parking spaces available for CFL games at Mosaic Stadium. That’s $30 per game! And the spots aren’t reserved.
The Riders have 10 home games scheduled this season. If they somehow get a home playoff game, it sounds like anyone purchasing a season’s parking pass will get a free spot for the postseason contest. Either that or the Riders haven’t yet figured how to milk more money out of that situation.
They’re selling spaces in the surrounding parking lots, none of which are owned by the Riders. The community-owned franchise has a rental agreement in place, but how many spots are going to be sold – 1,000, 3,000, 5,000? If they sell 3,000 parking packages, that’s $900,000, thank you very much.
