Without coming out and saying it directly, Flames president and CEO Ken King pretty well said Brian Burke should keep his mouth shut on the discussions between the city and the team in regards to a new rink.
Burke made headlines with his “we’ll just move” talk at a luncheon in Calgary. He went on to say Quebec could be an option.
Stick to hockey Burke, that’s what you’re paid to do.
But Ken King made a similar statement a few months ago, one he apologized for after fans became outraged the team would even start the “we’ll just move” talk so early in the negotiations with the city of Calgary.
It’s the most obvious card to play, especially when there would be viable options.
But get one thing straight, just like the Oilers’ silly trip to Seattle, the Flames are not moving from Calgary and the new rink will be built.
That’s why these threats sound so hollow and should be met with anger by the fans and taxpayers. They’ll be the ones paying for most of that rink in the end, just like the taxpayers and ticket holders are in Saskatchewan.
