Dwight versus Elvis. What a debate!
Sometimes our off-the-cuff, non-sports Green Zone discussions lead to the most interesting feedback. Such as, I’ve never been called a “Dwight Supremacist” before. But that’s what a caller dubbed me when we were debating which version of “Suspicious Minds” was better. Dwight Yoakam’s or Elvis Presley’s?
In homage to Woodsy and at the request of Jamie Nye, Producer Mike played a snippet of Elvis’ version after a commercial break. Woodsy promptly told us “Suspicious Minds” was his favourite Elvis tune. When I suggested Dwight’s countrified version was better, our text line went crazy.
Drew Remenda even raved about Fine Young Cannibals doing a decent rendition and echoed the idea that I don’t like Elvis. Hey, I toured Graceland, walked through the Jungle Room, fawned over the racquetball court and noted all the records on the wall. But like most of the contributors to our Green Zone text line, I still prefer hearing Dwight Yoakam sing, “We can’t go on together, with Suspicious Minds.” And my middle name is Dwight.
