Tens of thousands covered the shorelines of Wascana Lake to watch the Canada 150 fireworks take over the sky Saturday night.
The light show was Regina’s “longest and most intense” firework display to date, according to organizers.
Ayesha Azam has been coming to the fireworks for 11 years. She said nothing can compare to the Canada 150 show.
“I always come to the fireworks every year for Canada Day, but this year I think it was really big and I think they did a really good job,” said Azam. “It just felt like Canada was really like a family again.”
Saturday was also the long-awaited Riders home opener at New Mosaic Stadium, and not even the double-overtime finish could deter fans from the fireworks.
“It’s Canada 150 and I’m not going to get another second chance at this one,” said Cindy Michel, who cut out of the game early to catch the light show. “It’s all about the party. It’s all about the celebrating — and I’m very proud to be Canadian.”
The fireworks lit up Wascana Park for more than 20 minutes and were timed to music by Canadian artists.
