Within hours of the eight-year-old girl being found safe in Prince Albert, police took the suspected abductor into custody.
An Amber Alert was issued for the girl at 7:50 p.m. on Tuesday, when police believed a man took her from a playground in the neighbourhood around Olive Diefenbaker Drive in Prince Albert.
Prince Albert police soon identified 19-year-old Jared John Charles from St. Louis, Sask. as the man they were looking for in the case, saying he was the one who abducted the little girl.
Charles was described as having dark skin, long shaggy hair, wearing a dark ball cap, red shirt, and dark pants, and glasses.
By midnight, police said they had arrested Charles. No other details were provided.
Connection to previous alert
This isn’t the first time Charles has been involved in an Amber Alert investigation.
He was charged in the abduction of two young boys back in Sept. 2016.
The 18-year-old at the time had his abduction charges stayed in Dec. 2016. However, he had a previous conviction that didn’t allow him to be alone with any children under the age of 16, so Charles was charged with breaching his conditions.
As a result of another previous charge, Charles is on the registered sex offender list for 10 years and is still not allowed to be alone with anyone under the age of 16-years-old.
