Charges are being laid after Fillmore RCMP responded to a call of an alleged drunk driver with a gun on Highway 33.
Mounties said they first received a call about the driver, who was believed to be impaired and driving erratically, around 7:10 p.m. Friday near Tyvan, about an hour southeast of Regina. Police said the complainant was quite concerned about how close the driver was too getting into a crash.
Corporal Keith Kosior was the lone officer who initially responded. He explained how the person who reported the incident had kept an eye on the vehicle, relaying on to RCMP that the driver had become stuck in a ditch. It was also reported that a man got out of the vehicle holding a gun.
Kosior said he eventually arrested two men, aged 55 and 52.
“These two individuals were very intoxicated,” he said.
One was charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving. In addition, Kosior said two handguns were found which appear to be either pellet or BB guns. Additional firearm related charges are pending.
The men’s names are not being released at this time.
