After five days of backtracking, sucking up and public relations manoeuvres designed to cover up a CFL mistake, Karen Kuldys still isn’t a millionaire.
Nor should she be.
Kuldys entered a free contest and had a chance to win a million bucks if two kickoffs were returned for touchdowns during an Argos-Bombers game. Just before the second returner ran into the end zone, an on-field called a questionable penalty; it negated the touchdown.
In the aftermath, virtually everyone demanded that Karen get rewarded anyway. Why? That’s sports. The Argonauts would like a consolation prize, too, maybe an extra point in the standings. Maybe the Atlanta Falcons and Cleveland Indians want another opportunity. Aren’t your lottery numbers close enough to earn you a consolation prize?
She still receives a $25,000 sound system and has also been given 500,000 Air Miles, a year’s supply of groceries, Bombers season tickets and VIP treatment at the Grey Cup. That’s even more of an injustice: somebody getting rewarded for a bad penalty call.
